Anthropic submitted its initial public offering registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. The filing positions the company for a potential listing on the Nasdaq Composite Index under the ticker symbol ANT. If the offering proceeds as expected, it could raise up to $100 billion, a figure that would surpass the $86 billion raised by Elon Musk's SpaceX in its record-breaking debut.
The financial documents reveal a company experiencing explosive growth alongside massive expenditures. Anthropic reported revenue of $16.3 billion for the first half of 2026, a sharp increase from $1.2 billion during the same period last year. Despite this surge, the company posted a net loss of $80.7 billion for the first two quarters of 2026. This loss is more than six times larger than the $13 billion loss recorded in the first half of 2025. The prospectus notes that revenue growth rates are expected to decline over time.
Capital outflows for infrastructure have outpaced revenue. The company spent $8.9 billion on chips and other computing infrastructure in the first half of 2026, compared to $2.3 billion in the same period of the previous year. Anthropic was valued at $965 billion in May, and the new listing could push its valuation to $1.5 trillion or potentially $2 trillion, though a final number has not been established.
In a letter included in the S-1 filing, the seven co-founders, including CEO Dario Amodei, framed the offering as a historical opportunity. "We encourage you, as a prospective owner of our stock, not to think of your purchase in purely transactional terms," the founders wrote. They described the advent of machine intelligence as a seminal moment in human history and a chance to improve how humans live and work.
Investment analysts view the IPO as a test of investor appetite for the entire artificial intelligence sector. Nigel Green, CEO of deVere Group, stated in an email that the transaction serves as a referendum on the AI trade. He warned that a successful launch could trigger a wave of new AI listings, while a stumble might cause a rapid reset in tech valuations. Market analysts anticipate the shares could begin trading as early as November.
The filing details risks related to competition and technology development. Anthropic stated it must use its existing models to design and train next-generation platforms, a process it calls recursive self-improvement. The company warned that failing to direct sufficient compute resources to this effort could cause it to fall behind competitors. The documents also note that future growth depends on access to sufficient capital, including debt financing.
Anthropic filed a confidential IPO draft in June, beating out a rival company that filed just over a week later. The company moves forward despite ongoing debates about safety. In September, Amodei cited a 10% chance that the technology could wipe out humanity in the next decade, yet he continues to advocate for the pace of development.
