Ukraine Frontline Speeds Recover to 250 mph After Week of Caps
Defense officials confirmed satellite links returned to full capacity on Saturday, reversing a slowdown that hampered drone interception and military logistics.

Ukraine’s satellite internet speeds have returned to 250 mph, reversing a week-long restriction that capped connections at 100 mph. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the restoration on Saturday, stating that operations for both Starlink and the military’s Starshield system are back to pre-restriction levels.
The Defense Ministry confirmed the recovery through monitoring systems, reporting stable connectivity above the 250 mph threshold. Officials said the prior speed limit interfered with critical military functions, specifically the interception of enemy drones and the execution of frontline missions.
Starlink serves as a primary communication tool for Ukraine’s defense against Russia. The network supports drone operations, logistics for transporting food and water to troops, and communications along the front lines. Zelenskyy noted that the service also aids in countering Iranian-made Shahed drones deployed by Russian forces.
Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara attributed the speed restoration to direct diplomatic dialogue led by Zelenskyy. He emphasized that the result is vital for service members, drone operations, and logistics. In a separate post, Zelenskyy thanked American officials, including members of Congress, the State Department, and President Donald Trump.
The cause of the initial slowdown created friction between Washington and Kyiv. Zelenskyy told NBC that Ukrainian officials believed the U.S. government ordered the restrictions, citing a message from the American government to SpaceX. On Oct. 14, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk wrote that Starshield is owned by the U.S. government and that speed limits are decided by the U.S. military and the President.
The Trump administration has denied interfering with Ukraine’s access to Starshield. On Friday, President Trump declined to identify who ordered the restrictions, stating he would not reveal the information if he knew it. He defended Musk, describing him as a fair person who never does anything wrong.
The restoration occurred as the United States pursued renewed peace talks. Russia agreed to a trilateral meeting with Ukraine and the U.S. next month. The two sides also reached a localized ceasefire in the occupied city of Oleshky. The White House credited First Lady Melania Trump with brokering the deal, which includes humanitarian aid and civilian evacuation. Fighting continued elsewhere, with Ukraine striking a chemical plant in Tolyatti and a Russian drone hitting a residential building in Kyiv’s Obolon District on Saturday.
