Multiple gunshots are audible on a video recorded Thursday evening near a park in Evanston, Cincinnati, where children were playing. The footage, obtained by FOX 19 NOW, shows the area around Hewitt Avenue and Hackberry Street just before 7 p.m. Screaming follows the sounds of gunfire in the clip.
The shooting occurred in broad daylight, according to a neighbor who lives nearby. The man described the neighborhood as typically quiet. He noted that the incident left families feeling uneasy because children were in the immediate vicinity. He emphasized that the safety of the kids was the primary concern for residents.
Cincinnati police responded to a shots-fired call in the 1700 block of Kinney Avenue around the same time. That location is blocks away from the park where the video was filmed. Investigators have not confirmed a connection between the two incidents. Police found shell casings at the Kinney Avenue scene, and one bullet struck the window of a home.
The neighbor suggested the shots might have been a prank or an attempt to scare someone, though he acknowledged that anything could have happened. He said no one was hit. The community has previously taken steps to reduce violence in the area.
Police are continuing to investigate the Kinney Avenue call. They have not released a statement linking the gunfire to the park video. The video remains the primary visual evidence of the shots fired near the children.
