Apple is set to distribute the next major iPhone software update next week. The release, designated iOS 27.2, follows a limited rollout of iOS 27.1 that was restricted to the iPhone Duo. This new version is the first broad update for all compatible devices since the initial launch of the 27 series.

The most visible change involves FaceTime video capabilities. The company is extending the Dual Capture feature, which debuted in iOS 27, to group calls. Previously, this function was limited to one-on-one conversations. Under the new system, users on compatible models can tap the Flip button during a group meeting. This action activates the rear camera while keeping the front camera feed live. The result allows participants to see both the caller and the surrounding environment simultaneously.

Apple also restructured the interface for Apple Podcasts. The existing Up Next queue at the top of the Home tab is being divided into two distinct sections. The first section, labeled New Episodes, replaces the previous queue to list the latest releases from followed shows. A new section called Continue Playing sits directly below it. This area consolidates shows that a listener has started but not finished. A writer for 9to5Mac, who previously criticized the old layout as cluttered, stated the new structure helps users track their listening habits more effectively after testing the beta.

The update brings user profiles to the Apple TV app on iPhone. While profiles have been available on tvOS for Apple TV hardware, this is their first appearance on the iOS platform. After updating, users will encounter a profile selection screen when opening the app. This screen can be disabled if the user prefers the previous single-view experience. When profiles are active, the app adjusts content recommendations to match the selected viewer. If a child's profile is chosen, the app filters the library to display only age-appropriate series and movies from Apple. This setup aims to keep an adult's viewing queue separate and prevent children from accessing unsuitable material on a parent's device.

According to 9to5Mac, the software update includes new features across six different iPhone apps in total. The company plans to make iOS 27.2 available for download next week.
