2,313,165 ballots were cast in Michigan as of Monday morning, according to the Secretary of State's office. This figure represents 31.2% of the state's 7,420,172 registered voters.
The total includes 1,569,715 absentee ballots and 743,450 early in-person ballots. These numbers may rise slightly as final tallies are processed.
Michigan voters have increasingly utilized absentee and early in-person options in recent years. This shift has become a defining feature of the state's midterm election cycle.
Absentee ballots remain accepted until 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday, the close of polls. Most early in-person voting sites closed on Sunday, but local clerks in 13 communities extended voting into Monday. These communities include Delhi Charter Township, Lansing, Taylor, East Lansing, Erie Township, Luna Pier, Flint Township, Grand Blanc Township, Harrison Township, Lincoln Park, Sterling Heights, Utica, Thornapple Township, and Van Buren Township.
If current trends continue, overall voter participation could reach 60% or more. The August 2026 state primary recorded a 35% turnout among 7,359,855 active registered voters. That election included 1,569,715 returned absentee ballots, 743,450 early ballots, and 1,057,836 Election Day ballots.
The November 2024 presidential election set a record with 77.9% turnout among 7,319,017 active registered voters. That election saw 2,232,721 returned absentee ballots, 1,214,391 early ballots, and 2,244,123 ballots cast on Election Day.
