Marion Superior Court 30 will hear the initial appearance for a woman facing six criminal charges related to a shooting on the west side of Indianapolis. The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Prosecutors allege the suspect fired a 9mm handgun at two people wearing Halloween costumes.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 4800 block of Bertha Street around 11:41 p.m. on Halloween night after receiving reports of gunshots. Detectives spoke with two women who were walking their dog westbound. The victims stated they passed a woman sitting on a porch who they believed to be the suspect, later identified as Goodman.
According to court documents, Goodman left her chair and pointed a black handgun at the pair. She allegedly fired one shot in their direction. The victims said Goodman then entered her home before stepping back outside to verbally berate them.
The confrontation escalated when Goodman approached the women and threw a punch. The victims stated the punch missed. One victim swung back and struck Goodman in the face, causing her to fall to the ground. The woman then called 911.
Officers found a spent 9mm shell casing near the front door and a handgun holster on the porch next to the chair where Goodman had been sitting. When police spoke with Goodman, court records describe her as heavily intoxicated. She was unable to answer basic questions, slurred her speech, and had glassy eyes.
After a search warrant was approved, officers found a loaded Glock model 45 and a loaded 9mm handgun inside the residence. Goodman was arrested on preliminary charges of Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, and one count of Intimidation, all Level 5 felonies. She also faces two counts of Intimidation, which are Level 6 felonies.
