The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field, securing a 3-0 series lead in the World Series. One victory remains for the Brewers to claim their first championship. The Rays, who led the American League with 98 regular-season wins, have not won a title in 29 seasons.

Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser dominated the mound, allowing just one hit and one run over six innings. He faced the minimum number of batters, retiring 14 consecutive hitters after Yandy Díaz singled to lead off the first inning. Gasser became the first starter to face the minimum 18 batters through six innings in a World Series game since Curt Schilling in 2001. He also became the first left-handed pitcher to achieve this feat since Sandy Koufax in 1965.

The Brewers’ offense erupted in the fifth inning, scoring eight runs to make the score 8-0. The rally featured seven consecutive hits, a postseason record, with all hits occurring with two outs. It marked the first time in World Series history that a team scored eight runs with two outs in a single inning. Jackson Chourio led the charge with two hits in the inning and finished the game 4-for-5 with a stolen base.

Chourio, who has recorded eight hits in three World Series games, credited his team’s depth for his performance. “I know, as long as I get on base, there’s guys behind me who could score,” Chourio said. Manager Pat Murphy praised Chourio’s focus, stating, “He was tremendous. Locked in. Gives us a big lift.”

Brice Turang contributed a two-run single that initiated the fifth-inning run, while William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell added key hits. The Brewers finished with 16 total hits against Tampa Bay pitcher “Fastball Freddy” Peralta and five relievers. Peralta, the American League Championship Series MVP, allowed five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Rays manager Kevin Cash acknowledged the difficulty of the situation. “We’ve got a seat at the table. We’ve got to do something with the chip. Obviously the only thing we can do is win tomorrow,” Cash said. The Rays have never recovered from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven postseason series. Only the 2004 Boston Red Sox have achieved such a turnaround in major league history.

Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Griffin Jax is slated to start for Tampa Bay, while the Brewers have not yet announced their pitcher. Brandon Woodruff pitched the ninth inning for Milwaukee, allowing one run and two hits in his first appearance in three and a half months.
