Chesterfield Township police are searching for a white SUV after it fired a BB or pellet gun at several parked vehicles overnight. The investigation began on Wednesday morning when residents discovered shattered glass on their cars along Red Creek Lane, Julies Drive, and Crosscreek Drive.
Lisa Birkmeier found her car covered in damage when she stepped outside that morning. Her surveillance footage captures the white SUV pulling up slowly and firing multiple rounds at her vehicle. Birkmeier estimated the incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. the previous night. The SUV has a distinct sound consistent with an electric vehicle, a detail she noted to investigators.
Birkmeier stated that she will pay for the repairs out of pocket. The damage includes her windshield and two side windows. She expressed frustration at the cost but noted that police informed her she was not the only victim that morning. Officers told her there had already been four or five similar calls before they arrived at her home.
Kelle Finn, a Jeep owner on Crosscreek Drive, also found his vehicle targeted. He discovered bullet holes in his windshield and a shattered driver's side window. Finn said he initially feared he had been singled out for a specific reason. His relief came when he learned other cars in the neighborhood had been hit. His own security camera captured the same white SUV involved in the incident.
Police confirmed that one car on Julies Drive was shot seven times. No one is currently in custody. Authorities are asking residents who have information or have discovered new damage to contact the Chesterfield Township police department.
Birkmeier said she was surprised by the boldness of the shooter given the prevalence of home security cameras. She believes the vehicle is likely to be identified through existing footage. Finn expressed his opinion that while the shooter may have been looking for entertainment, the cost was being borne by innocent drivers.
