Apple has made its first foldable smartphone available to consumers, but the device requires additional purchases to unlock key features. The iPhone Duo does not include a stylus or a power adapter in the box, meaning buyers must spend extra money to access the phone’s unique input methods and charging speeds.

Writing on an iPhone is a new capability for the product line. Apple Pencil support is scheduled to arrive next week in the iOS 27.2 software update. Only the Apple Pencil with a USB-C connector will work on the device. The stylus is currently priced at $69, a discount from its standard price of $79. Users can write notes and sketch on both the inner and outer displays of the foldable.

Fast charging is another feature that depends on external hardware. The iPhone Duo can recharge to 50 percent in approximately 20 minutes, but it requires a suitable power adapter. The phone comes with a USB-C cable but no brick. To achieve the full charging speed, users need a 40W or higher adapter. Apple sells a 40W Dynamic Power Adapter for $34, while third-party options like Anker’s 100W charger cost $29.

Protection and mounting options are also available at launch. Third-party cases start at $29 for magnetic models with built-in stands. Apple’s own Folio case costs $129, and a standard case is $79. For drivers, magnetic car mounts that clip to air vents are priced around $19. These mounts allow the phone to display navigation data while connected to CarPlay.

StandBy mode has been updated for the iPhone Duo. The device can display smart home controls even when it is not charging. Two new views, Home Camera and Home Modular, provide access to connected security cameras. HomeKit-compatible cameras, such as the Aqara G100 2K model, are available for $39. A eufy 4K camera is listed at $69.

Audio accessories remain a separate purchase for those who do not already own earbuds. AirPods Pro 3 are currently on sale at Amazon for $199, down from their regular price of $249. The device includes active noise cancellation, which Apple notes helps with focus in work environments.

Total costs for recommended accessories can reach $249 if a buyer purchases the stylus, a high-wattage charger, and a camera. The iPhone Duo is now available for purchase, with software updates for full stylus functionality arriving in the coming days.
