It is rare for two teams in the same division to be this far from the top of the standings, yet here they are on a Monday night in Philadelphia.

The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are both riding 2-4 records as they prepare to clash. The NFC East currently looks like the weakest division in the league, offering a slim but real chance for either squad to claw back into contention. The New York Giants hold the lead at 3-2-1, but the gap is narrow enough that a win tonight could reshape the entire race. In a statistical anomaly, no team in this division has won a game in the past two weeks. This marks the first time since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger that all four teams in a single division have failed to secure a victory over a two-week span.

Philadelphia is dealing with a four-game losing skid, a stretch not seen since 2020. The offense has been particularly quiet, managing only 58 points across those four defeats. The trouble extends beyond the quarterback position, as Jalen Hurts is out for the remainder of the year with blood clots. His absence leaves Tanner McKee, who spent the first two years of his career as a backup, leading the charge. While he has started two games before, last week's loss to Carolina was his first true test. He had limited preparation time, but this week he benefits from a full week of practice with first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. McKee noted that he feels well-prepared and plans to coordinate more closely with the coaching staff rather than working in isolation.

The running game presents another headache for the Eagles. Saquon Barkley is still managing a hamstring injury and may return, but his backups Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby are also dealing with injuries. Carson Steele, elevated from the practice squad last week, suffered a shoulder issue during the recent loss. Dameon Pierce was the only healthy back available, rushing for 35 yards in a game where Dallas allowed an average of 4.7 yards per carry. The Cowboys have their own struggles, ranking 30th in the league defensively under new coordinator Christian Parker. Offensively, they have scored just 29 points in their last two losses, including a 23-13 defeat by Green Bay. This is the first time since 2019 that Dak Prescott has started consecutive games where the team failed to reach 20 points.

Owner Jerry Jones addressed the coaching situation at the NFL fall meeting on Wednesday. He indicated that no further coaching changes are expected this season, describing the recent hiring of Mike Pettine as a strategic and unique move. Several individual records are at stake in this matchup. Javonte Williams is chasing Emmitt Smith's franchise history with seven rushing touchdowns through six games. CeeDee Lamb has 48 receptions, a franchise record for the first six games, and is nearing 8,000 career receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one catch to enter the top three on the franchise career receptions list.

The Cowboys are favored by four points, though their record against the spread is 3-3 compared to Philadelphia's 1-5. Dallas leads the all-time series 72-58 and won the last meeting 24-21 last November. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN. The Eagles travel to Washington on Nov. 1 and then host the Giants, a stretch of games that will determine if their season can still be saved.
