Dublin City Council is hosting its first Christmas market at City Hall on Sunday, December 6, to drive local consumption and reduce holiday waste. The SoCircular event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and admits visitors free of charge.
More than 30 local creators, businesses, and community groups will occupy the space. Stalls will sell handmade gifts, jewellery, skincare, homeware, books, and locally produced food. The lineup emphasizes the circular economy, featuring decorations crafted from recycled glass and reclaimed textiles, biodegradable wreaths, and artwork made from recycled coffee pods.
A dedicated 'Gift an Experience' section will offer workshops, outings, and cultural events as alternatives to physical goods. Two Dublin charities will integrate services into the day. Change Clothes, a textile reuse group based in Dublin 8, will host drop-in sessions for making upcycled wreaths and pre-booked workshops for creating reusable Christmas crackers. The Hygiene Hub charity will collect unopened hygiene products to redistribute to people experiencing hygiene poverty before the holidays.
Local choirs are scheduled to perform throughout the day. Lord Mayor Daryl Barron stated that the venue has never held a Christmas market before. He noted that the event offers a chance to support local businesses, makers, and social enterprises while promoting a sustainable approach to the season.
The market concludes the planning phase for the city's first civic holiday fair. Admission remains free for the public for the entire duration of the event on December 6.
