Residents in the Macomb County area can secure free, one-on-one Medicare counseling appointments through Dec. 7. The AgeWays MI Options Medicare Assistance Program is providing these sessions during the annual Open Enrollment period.

The program operates as a health care benefit counseling service. It aims to help Medicare beneficiaries make informed decisions about their coverage. The service is designed to be unbiased and free of cost to participants.

Certified counselors assist clients with several specific tasks. They help individuals compare different Medicare plan options. They also explain benefits and coverage details. The team works to reduce confusion surrounding Medicare choices.

Counselors also help clients find a plan that fits their specific health care needs and budget. They explore opportunities to save money on coverage and prescription drugs. Appointments are required for this service. Residents can call 800-852-7795 to book a time.

A local calendar lists specific dates and locations for these counseling events. The AgeWays organization published a document titled 2026 SHIP OEP Events Calendar Final. This file is available for download on their website. It provides details on where residents can meet with counselors in person.

In addition to Medicare support, several local organizations are holding events in the coming weeks. The St. Clair Shores Cultural Committee is organizing a bus trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts. The trip is scheduled for Nov. 6.

The outing features the Georgia O’Keeffe: Architecture exhibit. The show displays approximately 35 architectural paintings created from the 1920s through the 1960s. O’Keeffe was a pioneer of modern art who found inspiration in buildings and environments. Tickets cost $20 for the tour alone. The tour and transportation package costs $20. DIA members receive free tickets.

Participants must register for the DIA trip. They should indicate if they are a DIA member or need wheelchair accommodation. The group arrives at the St. Clair Shores Library at noon on Nov. 6. The bus departs at 12:15 p.m. Attendees are expected back at the library by approximately 4 p.m. Tickets are nonrefundable.

The Khris Mapp Project is accepting new or gently used formal wear. Items include dresses, suits, pants, shoes, ties, and other formal attire. The project also accepts monetary donations. The goal is to provide formal outfits for young men and women. This ensures financial circumstances do not prevent participation in school year occasions. Donations are accepted through March 1.
