Detroit-area singer KALYSTA will release her debut EP, Midnight Special, at the end of November. The project marks the first full-length work from the artist, who has performed since childhood but only recently transitioned to music as a full-time career.

KALYSTA began singing in school choirs, an interest her parents encouraged by seeking opportunities beyond the classroom. She treated music as an extracurricular activity throughout high school and college before deciding to pursue it professionally.

The EP represents three to four years of development. KALYSTA described the record as growing with her, noting that many tracks reflect life experiences as a woman and the process of finding confidence. She stated the project is about being a powerful, strong woman.

Musically, the album centers on pop genres but incorporates soulful vocals and elements of R&B and jazz. KALYSTA attributed these influences to the music she listened to while growing up. "Especially for this EP, I would say the vibes for it are pop [..] but with undertones of that soulful vocal, R&B, and jazz as well," she said.

She will celebrate the release at El Club in Detroit on November 20. The venue is located in the city, where KALYSTA has maintained her musical presence.
