A death certificate appeared in a recent trailer for EastEnders, suggesting that Mick Carter may not be the ghost fans have feared for four years. The document offers a concrete end to the mystery that has plagued the show since the character's disappearance in December 2022. That event occurred when the car carrying Linda Carter and Janine Butcher went over a cliff on Christmas Day. Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer, plunged into the water to save Linda and was never seen again.

Janine Butcher, portrayed by Charlie Brooks, spent time in prison for her role in the accident. She also framed Linda for drink-driving in an attempt to separate the couple. Despite the legal battle, Janine and Mick married before the crash. They reunited briefly before his disappearance, leaving Janine technically Mrs. Carter. This residual title now threatens Linda, played by Kellie Bright, as Janine prepares to re-enter Albert Square.

The return is scheduled for the episode airing on Monday, November 9. Linda receives a shocking phone call that unsettles her. She seeks advice from Elaine Peacock, Sharon Watts, and Max Branning. Max, played by Jake Wood, becomes her primary support during this period of uncertainty. The group decides that Linda must confront Janine directly to get answers.

The reunion between the two women is tense. Janine drops a bombshell claim that Linda refuses to believe. Linda turns to Max for backing, and the couple plans to investigate the truth together. Max makes a decision in this process that the storyline implies may be regrettable. The narrative questions whether Janine knows Mick's location or if the new information relates to the death certificate.

Filming took place outside a church where a funeral was staged. Actors Charlie Brooks, Kellie Bright, and Jake Wood appeared together in these scenes. The setting suggests a formal goodbye for Mick, though the plot may hold further twists. The series airs on BBC One at 7:30 p.m. and is available on iPlayer from 6 a.m. the same day.
