Real Madrid will attempt to cut its six-point disadvantage in the La Liga standings to three with a win at Camp Nou on Sunday. The visitors arrive in the fixture after securing four consecutive victories. A positive result would reduce the distance between the two clubs and provide a momentum boost for a side that has dropped six of the last seven meetings with its rival.

Barcelona currently leads the table and aims to extend that cushion to nine points. The Spanish champions have waited for this matchup to solidify their position in the competition. However, the road to the match presented complications for Hansi Flick’s squad. The team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday, falling 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Jose Mourinho’s return to the fixture draws considerable attention. The 63-year-old manager has coached in 27 matches against Barcelona and 17 El Clasicos while serving on the Real Madrid bench. Florentino Perez first hired Mourinho in 2010 to compete against Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona. Perez hopes the Portuguese manager can bring the league title back to the Bernabeu for a second time.

Flick acknowledged the momentum behind the visitors. He expected a Madrid side arriving with a lot of confidence and expressed high respect for Mourinho. "When you’re managing teams on this level for so many years and you always have success, it’s about quality," Flick said. He noted that his team is in an initial phase where the coach is learning and analyzing, adding that comparing them to more established sides is unfair.

The 4-2 defeat in Paris offered tactical clues for Flick’s group. "We analysed this game. We did many things really good, but we saw some situations where we have to improve," Flick stated. He viewed the upcoming match as a chance to challenge the team and grow.

Both managers described the fixture as unique. Flick called it the best match in the sport, noting that its importance goes far beyond the three points at stake. Mourinho emphasized that recent form does not matter in this specific rivalry. "Normally, the football world stops to watch it," Mourinho said. "Hopefully, it’s a great game and we win."

The match is scheduled for Sunday at Camp Nou. Both teams will look to secure their respective objectives in the league table. The outcome will directly alter the point differential between the top two teams in the division.
